NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)
Our Level III NICU, the largest in the area, is recognized as a national leader in neonatal care quality by the Vermont Oxford Network for providing the highest level of care in a family-centered environment to critically ill babies in our region. There are 28 licensed beds, some with isolation capabilities.

There is in-house coverage by board-certified neonatologists and nurse practitioners 24-hours-a-day, 7 days a week. Our exceptional team of professionals includes board-certified neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, dietitians and social workers.

PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit)
The region's only PICU, we provide the highest quality children's health care. In the PICU, we care for:

• Children with life-threatening illnesses, such as severe infections, breathing problems, and seizures.
• Severely injured children admitted through our Level 1 Trauma Center or Regional Burn Center. The Trauma Center is the only one in our region with additional qualifications in Pediatric Trauma and burn care for children.
• Children with complex medical problems, including children who are dependent on ventilators and other technical devices.
• Children in hospice care who receive their primary care at home and who occasionally require inpatient care to relieve pain or adjust their medical care.

Full-time, hospital-based internal medicine hospitalists and critical care intensivists care for children 24/7 inside the PICU. They are available 24/7 to consult with you.

Pediatric Inpatient Unit
To ensure that each child’s needs are met, hospital-based internal medicine hospitalists from the PICU cover the pediatric unit 24-hours-a-day, 7 days a week The unit is also staffed around-the-clock by experienced pediatric nurses. In addition, Lehigh Valley Hospital offers the area’s only Child Life Program, with a specialist staff and volunteers who focus on children’s social, emotional and intellectual growth while they are in the Pediatric Inpatient Unit. The Program recognizes that children in the hospital for medical treatment also need their developmental needs met. The program provides stress relief or helps children relax about their illness, injury and any medical procedures they’re undergoing. Emotional support is also provided for siblings and parents.

The Pediatric Specialty Center at Lehigh Valley Hospital is located at 2545 Schoenersville Rd., Bethlehem, PA, (on the Lehigh Valley Hospital -Muhlenberg campus). It is equipped with 17 exam rooms, 2 procedure rooms, a therapy gym and a pulmonary function lab. Our full team of experienced pediatric clinicians include specialists in the following areas: hematology/oncology, pulmonary medicine, gastroenterology, general surgery, rheumatology and cardiology.

Our 10-bed unit on the campus of Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg offers the region's only same-day pediatric surgical care for infants and children up to 16 years old. Sameday procedures performed by our pediatric general surgeon (the only in the valley), orthopedic surgeons, and plastic surgeons include general and plastic surgery, orthopedics, ear, nose and throat, and dental restoration. We also feature the region’s only board-certified pediatric anesthesiologist.
